NEW FAMILY CENTRE EXETER
Design and construction of a two-storey nursery school for 140 children up to 5 years of age including a sleeping room; staff offices and restroom; a full commercial kitchen; first-floor balconies set up for outdoor toddler play; heat recovery ventilation throughout; disabled lift; PV installation on the roof.
Externally the garden was secured both at the perimeter of the site and immediately around the building – the latter area included a large Astroturf space for all-weather play. The access road to the building was constructed utilising permeable paving while the paths around the building were permeable resin bound aggregate paving.
Upon completion, the building was taken over and is being run by Exeter College which is also running NVQ courses on nursery care at the facility. The building secured a BREEAM Excellent rating.
The scheme was procured via an NEC 3 Contract Option E.
