Women in Construction Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the talented women driving progress in the construction industry. At Welling, we are proud to champion the success and contributions of the women across our business – ranging from graduates at the start of their careers to senior professionals with years of experience shaping the built environment.

The construction and quantity surveying industry is one of the most male-dominated sectors in the UK. While the industry is evolving, women remain significantly under represented. According to a 2022 RICS report, only 17% of UK and Ireland’s 99,000 RICS members were women. Over the past 53 years, the proportion of women in surveying has grown from 1% to 18%, but work is still needed to create a truly diverse and inclusive workforce.

Welling is committed to being part of that change, and we are proud to celebrate some of the incredible women in our team:

  • Moyo Abayomi-Ofarn and Khadija Begum – Graduate Employer’s Agents in our London office.
  • Rebecca Hubbard – Employer’s Agent based in our Bristol office.
  • Julie Harris, Clerk of Works, and Lianne Russo, Principal Designer (CDM), both in our Southampton office.
  • Emily Harvey – Associate at Welling with much experience as Employer’s Agent and Cost Consultant.
  • Nicky Green, Julie Brightman and Hayley O’Connor – The backbone of our Southampton head office, managing secretarial support, finance and administration. This year, Nicky celebrates over 28 years with Welling, while Julie and Hayley 16 years and 5 years respectively.

As Women in Construction Week comes to a close, we celebrate the progress made and remain focused on creating a more inclusive and diverse industry for the future.
